The Call to Service: Ministry in the Orthodox Church. Bishop Maximos & the Team.

The Church is a priesthood of all believers and we are all called to serve, both women and men. We are honoured to welcome His Grace Bishop Maximos, who will give a powerful keynote talk exploring what it means to be called to ministry in today’s world. His Grace will reflect on the spiritual, pastoral, and practical aspects of ministry in the Church, offering encouragement to those who may be discerning a path to service.

Bishop Maximos is known for his engaging teaching and pastoral heart. His address will speak to those who are actively considering ordination or theological training, as well as those simply curious about how to serve more faithfully in their own communities. Whether you are young or old, male or female, just beginning to explore the Christian faith or deeply involved already, this event is for you.

Throughout the day, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet the lecturers and current students of TMES. Learn more about our academic programmes, formation process, and the various ministries supported by the seminary. There will be a Q&A panel session with the tutors, opportunity to register of our courses, and time for fellowship and prayer.
Ministry in the Church takes many forms — from preaching and pastoral care to teaching, chaplaincy, and mission work, here are some of the ways in which people can serve the Orthodox Church.

  • Teaching Sunday School: Educating children and young adults about the faith, scripture, and traditions of the Orthodox Church.
  • Catechesis: Providing instruction to those preparing for baptism or chrismation, helping them understand the beliefs and practices of the Church.
  • Singing in the Choir: Enhancing the liturgical services with beautiful hymns and chants, contributing to the spiritual atmosphere of worship.
  • Serving on the Church Council: Assisting in the administration and decision-making processes of the parish, helping to guide the community in its various activities and initiatives.
  • Greeting Visitors: Welcoming newcomers and visitors to the church, making them feel at home and providing information about the parish and its services.
  • Ordained Service: Serving as a deacon, priest, or bishop, leading the community in worship, providing pastoral care, and administering the sacraments.

These roles are vital to the life of the Orthodox Church and offer meaningful ways for individuals to contribute to their faith community. TMES is committed to preparing men and women for faithful, Spirit-led ministry, rooted in Scripture and the traditions of the Church. If God is calling you, we want to help you discern that call.
