I started my collection by finding an ancient Roman coin in an old box my mum had given me and Roman pottery in one of my local fields. I then purchased a Joblot of uncleaned Roman coins, and my passion for Collecting ancient artefacts was born.
Initially, my collection was solely Roman coins, but it gradually evolved into an extensive collection from 1150 BC to 1000 AD. My collection ranges from Bricks to Brooches and everything in between!
One of the many joys of collecting Ancient Artifacts is cleaning and identifying them. Sometimes, identifying Artifacts can be quite arduous. The longest one so far took me a month to identify, which ended up being a silver Viking pendant (but I’m still not 100% certain)!
Most of my collection, besides coins, dates from the 4th to the 11th century AD. This is a fascinating period of history because not very much is known about it, and something new is discovered almost every week.
As an Orthodox Christian, it is doubly fascinating because you can handle and admire something that was around in the time of the Gospels and the Saints! For example, I have a coin of St Constantine, better known as Constantine the Great.
I am currently building up a set of Late Roman/Anglo-Saxon Armour for my other hobby, Reenacting!
